Can’t wait to get old..
…so I can also be as carefree as the elderly man I heard the other day in a restaurant when asked if he wanted champagne before food.
My husband and I went at a sort of a fancy restaurant the other day and right after we sat down, the sommelier came to our table inquiring if we wanted a glass of champagne. We were too hungry to think about any alcoholic drink ahead. I apologised almost embarrassed, explaining “we’d rather eat first and maybe have some wine instead when the food comes”. I don’t know why I had to justify our option. There shouldn’t be any argument for not drinking alcohol.
Later on, an elderly couple arrived and sat next to our table. They were silent and discrete and looked very nicely dressed. The sommelier came at their table asking if they wanted champagne. The man didn’t hear well and asked to repeat his question. What came next was a loud revolted shout,” What? Champagne?? No, no, bring us the food menu!” .
This thought bugged me afterwards, whether this man had always been so carefree and unapologetic or it was something he gained with age. He sounded as if he really didn’t want to waste time on champagne anymore. I need to start caring less about the champagne.
