The Taxi Driver Who Listens To Pink Floyd
I was in a hurry on my way to the bus station where I had to pick up a luggage, when I decided, as usual, that it’d be best to catch a taxi. The guy was a serious man, with a serious car, with real music on board. Once he stopped talking on the phone, he turned on the music, this time, not radio, as most of the taxi drivers do for satisfying any ordinary client, but a CD with…believe it or not for the fans, Pink Floyd.
The song was Coming back to life, and it simply stroke me, that’s why I immediately had to ask him, “Is it a whole Pink Floyd CD?” To my surprise, he replied on the spot: “Yes, why?” ; “Well, it’s the first time I get to meet a taxi driver who listens to a Pink Floyd CD”, “That’s because you’ve never before had the chance to go with me.” This is where he swelled like a turkey-cock. But may I say, he had the reasons.
Then he confessed that this is real music and that he wouldn’t have imagined that the young generation also listens to Pink Floyd. “They don’t “, I said, “but there are those rare cases (like me, hehe) who self educate in high school…that’s why. Because if we had a young folk now listening to High Hopes, I doubt he would like it at all.” And then we spoke about the song, cuz my ride lasted as long as the song. I thought it was a morning song, it reminded me of the seaside when the sun rises triumphantly…hence the very title. He agreed. At the end of the trip, I wanted to tip him, but in the first place he refused. I told him I wanna tip him because he had good tastes and he, unwillingly, matched mine’s. If I could, I would have offered him a gift or an ice cream, but money was the only social object to show my gratitude in that very moment. He eventually accepted.
I thought: What a morning to come back to life.
