Why should silence be mandatory in public transportation
…to avoid catastrophes like attending a three women’s loud chit chat that can ruin your reading or attempt to take the last nap before work.
Silence is neutral. Thumbs up for the Scandinavians, who have strict rules in public transportation and shush you if you accidentally forget and start talking on the phone as if you were at home.
Especially in the mornings and in the evenings, on the way and back from work. At both times of the day, our brain is searching for peace of mind. Instead you have to bare with all the meaningless babble of some people. It should be common sense!! Yet it is not.
Unless there were smart conversations, those that you want to spy on, where people intrigue you, where you want to know the words’ owner. I’ve just changed my mind: silence should only be mandatory for dull and uninteresting people. But since dull people don’t have the self-consciousness that they are dull, it might as well not work.
So I’m gonna stick to my initial call to action: let’s also sign petitions about these simple, still so common-sense gestures: to respect our peers’ by keeping quiet in public transportation.
The code of conduct seems long gone and forgotten by some. Oh, balls!
